An accident involving a motor vehicle and a moped on North Guignard Drive in Sumter left one person dead Thursday evening.

The moped driver, 57-year-old Terry Flynt, of Blanche Road in Sumter, was pronounced dead at the scene after the collision that occurred about 6:30 p.m. at Guignard and Oxford Street, according to Sumter County Coroner Robbie Baker.

His next of kin has been notified, Baker said.

According to the Sumter Police Department, Flint was making a left turn onto Oxford when he drove into the path of a 1996 Honda sedan that was heading north on Guignard, Public Information Officer Tonyia McGirt said.

The driver of the sedan was not injured.

An autopsy is scheduled for Friday morning at MUSC in Charleston.

The Sumter Police Department and the coroner’s office is investigating the incident.
