Morris alumnus named speaker for Fall Honors Day Convocation

Morris College will hold its Fall 2019 Honors Day Convocation on Thursday at 10 a.m. in the Neal-Jones Auditorium. This formal campus-wide program is held twice annually to recognize students for outstanding academic achievement during the previous semester.

The featured speaker for this program is the Rev. Dr. Cecil Bromwell, a 2004 honor graduate of Morris College and present pastor of the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Darlington. He graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Pastoral Ministry. He was fourth in a class of 168.

Bromwell is a 2007 honor graduate of the Interdenominational Theological Center, Morehouse School of Religion in Atlanta, earning the Master of Divinity degree. In 2012, he received a Doctor of Ministry degree from the ITC.

He is a member of Theta Phi Theological Honor Society, the ITC Alumni Association, National Dean's List, O.R. Reuben Scholar, All-American Collegiate Scholar, Sigma Tau Delta Honor Society, Alpha Kappa Mu Honor Society and Who's Who Among American Universities & Colleges.

He was called into the gospel ministry in September of 1989 and ordained in May of 1994. He served as senior pastor of Nazarene Missionary Baptist Church, Mullins, for 12 years and served as assistant to the pastor at Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church in Marion for three years.

His civic involvements include True Light of Zion Lodge #399 Free and Accepted Masons and Mt. Moriah #1 Order of the Eastern Star.

Bromwell serves as president of Darlington Ministerial Alliance, vice president of Macedonia Life-Skills Center and president of the Pee Dee Baptist Sunday School Department. He is also a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc.

Bromwell is a member and the eighth pastor of the historic Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Darlington.

Bromwell is married to the former Poiette McGill of Marion, and they have three children, Shakira, Victory and CeJay, one granddaughter, Mercy, and two grandsons, Timothy and Michael. The Bromwells reside in Darlington.
