MOSES YATES

Funeral services for Moses "Big Moe" Yates will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at Mechanicsville United Methodist Church, 184 Lake Ashwood Road, Sumter, with the Rev. Ernest W. Fierson, pastor and officiant. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.

A public viewing will be held from 1 to 7 p.m. today.

Mr. Yates was born Oct. 19, 1945, in Lydia, Darlington County, to the late Walter McFadden Jr., Everlena Yates and Spurgeon Scarborough.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Bernard Yates Jr.; and a brother, Willie Dubose.

Mr. Yates departed this life on Sunday, Aug. 4, 2019, in Sumter.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Mary Lisbon Yates; four sons, Matthew (Sandra) Yates, Bernard (Anessa) Yates, Stanley (Assonia) Yates and Ryan (Carolyn) Yates; 11 grandchildren; two great- granddaughters; three sisters, Shelia Buard, Felicia Lucas and Rebecca Primes; one brother, Ricky Lucas; father-in-law, Charlie L. Harriott; 11 sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; two aunts; and a host nieces, nephews, other relatives and very close friends.

The family is receiving friends from 5 to 9 p.m. at 1185 Pulpit St., Sumter.

Services are in the care of Whites Mortuary LLC.
