NANCY RICKS MURRELL

Nancy Ricks Murrell was born Dec. 25, 1949, in Sumter, a daughter of Sammie Lee Ricks and the late Geneva Wilson Ricks. She was called from earthly labor to eternal rest early Monday morning, Aug. 5, 2019, at the home of her sister.

Nancy attended public school in Sumter for a few years but left Sumter as a young child to live with her grandmother in Bronx, New York, where she completed high school in the New York public school system. Nancy began her career at Aetna Insurance Co. in New York and later worked at New York State Forestry Department. After more than 30 years of dedicated service, Nancy retired from the agency in January 2019.

Precious memories of her life will be cherished by her beloved grandson, Jerrod "Keno" Rodriguez; her beautiful great-granddaughter, Khloe Ramona Rodr guez; her father, Sammie Lee Ricks Sr.; sisters, Rosa Lee (Elijah) Ramsey, Marie Kirk, Delia Ricks and Meline (Billy) Tinney; a brother, Roman J. Deas; aunts, Wilhelmenia Rivers and Annie Mae Deveraux; uncles, James Ricks and Willie Wilson; a goddaughter, Jasmine O'Toole; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her mother, Nancy was preceded in death by her son, Ingram Irving Jr., and a brother, Sammie Lee Ricks Jr.

Public viewing will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday at Job's Mortuary.

Ms. Murrell will be placed in the church at 11 a.m. on Monday for viewing until the hour of service.

Funeral services will be held at noon on Monday at Wayman Chapel AME Church, 160 N. Kings Highway, Sumter, SC 29154 with the Rev. Dr. Dennis W. Broughton Jr., pastor, eulogist, and the Rev. Charlie Howard officiating. Interment will follow at Wayman Chapel Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the home, 915 Reed Roman Road, Sumter, SC 29153.
