NATHANIEL OAKS

Nathaniel Oaks, 56, departed this life on Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2019.

Born on Nov. 24, 1962, in Sumter County, he was a son of the late Legrand Oaks Sr. and Janie Simmons Oaks. He received his formal education from the public schools of Lee County. After graduation, he moved to Newark, New Jersey, where he attended college. He later returned home and reconnected with his church, Mt. Olive AME Church.

He leaves to cherish his memories: his grandmother, Bessie Simmons; three brothers, Thomas (Algetha) Oaks of Newark, Legrand (Kathy) Oaks and Erica (Renee) Oaks, both of Sumter; one sister, Lisa Bird of Newark; two uncles, Fredrick Oaks and Cedrick Oaks, both of Dalzell; a host nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the home of his grandmother, 95 Orange St., Woodrow.

Funeral services will be held at noon today at the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel, Williams Funeral Home Inc., 821 N. Main St., Sumter, with the Rev. Dr. R.L. Brown, pastor of Mt. Olive AME Church, presiding, and the Rev. Dr. Kimberly Green, eulogist.

Funeral procession will leave at 11:20 a.m. from the home.

Burial will be at Colclough Cemetery, Dubose Siding Road, Sumter.
