LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Nettie Davidson Hurt, 94, of Lynchburg, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, died May 7, 2010, at Avante' of Lynchburg, surrounded by her family. She was the widow of Walker Joseph Hurt.

Born Nov. 6, 1915, in Appomattox County, Va., she was a daughter of the late William Thomas and Lou Carter Davidson. She was the last surviving family member of her generation. Mrs. Hurt was a member of Fairview Christian Church and a retired employee of Leggetts Department Store. She was a past noble grand of Fairview Rebekah Lodge No. 52, a member of Lynchburg Home Rebekah Lodge No. 41, and a recipient of the Decoration of Chivalry.

She was preceded in death by brothers, Braxton Thomas Davidson and Ollie Jackson Davidson; and sisters, Hester D. Martin, Evelyn D. Martin and Blanche D. Pulliam.

She is survived by two sons, Daniel Joseph Hurt and wife, Donna, of North Myrtle Beach and Arthur William Hurt of Monroe, Va.; three daughters, Roberta H. Tucker of Rustburg, Va., Rebecca H. Coleman and husband, Alfred, of Elon, Va., and VeLinda H. Reynolds and husband, Dennis, of Manning. She is also survived by grandchildren, Steven E. Tucker and wife, Debra, of Lynchburg, Darryl W. Tucker and wife, Cheryl, of Fogelsville, Pa., Michelle H. Riggs and husband, Robert, of Port Charlotte, Fla., and Rebecca H. Flynn and husband, Sean, of Bluffton; great-grandchildren, Joshua Tucker and Christina Tucker of Lynchburg, Angela T. Franklin and husband, Jeremy, of Rustburg, Seneca, Alyssa and Raleigh Tucker of Fogelsville, Zoe and Sophia Riggs of Port Charlotte and Sean Kelly, Evelyn, Veronica and Cooper Flynn of Bluffton; a great-great-grandchild, J.L. Franklin of Rustburg; and 14 nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to the nurses, CNAs and staff at Avante' of Lynchburg for their loving care over the years.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 11, 2010, at Robinson Funeral Home in Appomattox. The Rev. Jack Hamilton and Parish Minister Jean Reynolds officiated. Burial was held at Old Herman Cemetery in Appomattox County.

FELIX SIMON Jr.

Felix Simon Jr. was born on Friday, Feb. 25, 1949, in Clarendon County to the late Felix Simon Sr. and Gardenia Postell Simon. He was the stepson of the late Sarah Brown Simon. He was the husband of Margaret Williams Simon.

Felix entered into eternal rest on Thursday, May 13, 2010, at Keystone Hospice in Philadelphia.

He was educated in the public schools of Sumter County and was a graduate of Manchester High School in Pinewood, Class of 1967.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Robert (Moody) and Mae B. Postell; paternal grandparents, Joe and Louise Gaymon Simon; and stepmother, Sarah Brown Simon.

Felix leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Margaret W. Simon of Sumter; three sons, Felix Anthony (Sharon) Wilson of Sumter, Kelcey Little of Philadelphia and Alexander Williams; a daughter, Tammy Michelle Simon of Durham, N.C.; five sisters, Bernice Burnette of Macon, Ga., Shirley (David) Gault of Haddock, Ga., Evelyn (Julius) Bookhart and Kyntanya Simon, both of Philadelphia and Brenda (Darrell) Payton of North Carolina; two brothers, James (Dorothy) Brown of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Robert (Beverly) Simon of Macon; 12 grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Monday, May 17, 2010, at Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church, 805 S. Harvin St., with the Rev. Dr. Marion H. Newton, senior pastor.

Final resting place is Hillside Memorial Park, 802 North Guignard Dr.

The family received friends at the home, 402 Seminole Road.
