A 28-year-old Sumter woman is facing a charge of unlawful neglect of a child after her newborn son tested positive for marijuana.

Heather Barrett, of Goshen Road, was arrested on March 5 after a warrant was issued the day before, according to the Sumter County Sheriff's Office. She gave birth to a boy at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital on Feb. 7.

Barrett also tested positive for marijuana during a prior urine drug screening, which the sheriff's office confirmed through medical records obtained from the hospital and law enforcement.
