By earning the most votes from the public of four finalists in The Sumter Item's online contest, Nelson was recognized in the newspaper and online and received a $50 gift card to Baker's Sweets, a framed certificate and Morris swag, all courtesy of the college, the contest's sponsor. Nominations are now open for June's Counselor of the Month contest. To nominate your favorite high school guidance counselor from a public or private school in Sumter, go to www.theitem.com/counselor. Four finalists will be chosen by The Sumter Item staff, and the public will vote on a winner to be announced the fourth Tuesday of the month. Nominations are open through June 20, with voting open June 21-27. The winner will receive a $50 gift card to a local business, a framed certificate and Morris swag.
