Nominations open for May's Morris College Counselor of the Month contest

Morris College President Leroy Staggers, right, recognized Crestwood High School's Cassandra Breland as April's Counselor of the Month recently. By earning the most votes from the public of four finalists in The Sumter Item's online contest, Breland was recognized in the newspaper and online and received a $50 gift card to Willie Sue's, a framed certificate and Morris swag, all courtesy of the college, the contest's sponsor. Nominations are now open for May's Counselor of the Month contest. To nominate your favorite high school guidance counselor from a public or private school in Sumter, go to www.theitem.com/counselor. Four finalists will be chosen by The Sumter Item staff, and the public will vote on a winner to be announced the fourth Wednesday of the month. Nominations are open through May 16, with voting open May 17-23.
