Olley Wilson, "Byrd," as he was affectionately called, left this earthly realm on Thursday morning, May 20, 2021, at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital, Sumter, surrounded by loved ones.

Born on Jan. 16, 1955, in Sumter County, he was a son of the late Malachi Wilson Jr. and Jannie Mae Reames Wilson. Olley was educated in the public schools of Sumter County. Being reared in a Christian home, Byrd accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior and joined Liberty Hill Baptist Church in Bishopville as a youth. He was also a master painter who took great pride in his work for more than 30 years.

Byrd leaves to cherish his memories: four sisters, Evinna Wilson, Anna Holmes and Lou Ella Sorrells of Sumter and Christine Ziegler of West Palm Beach, Florida; one brother, Leroy Reames (Irene) of Camden; one sister-in-law, Louella Wilson (Isaac); companion, Joyce Epps of Sumter; three aunts, Annie Lee Wilson, Florence Wilson of Sumter and Ethel Grimball of New York, New York; one uncle, Roland Bowman of Patterson, New Jersey; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

In accordance with COVID-19 guidelines, the family is requesting that face masks and social distancing be observed by relatives and friends during visitations at the home, 30 Byrd St., Sumter.

Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Broad Branch Cemetery, St. Charles, with the Rev. Harry Clark officiating.

The procession will leave at 1:50 p.m. from the home.
