Opinion: We as Christians should vote Biblically at the ballot box

Christians need to be involved in the voting process. However, for whom we vote should not be determined by the candidate's personality (or lack thereof) or by the candidate's political party affiliation. As Christians, we must support and promote Biblical issues and values when the opportunity arises. Some issues, of course, do not have Biblical commands. For example, there is no Biblical reason that I find to support or oppose the Second Amendment, but I am thankful for it and fully support it. There are certainly historical reasons to support it. If we don't control our government, it will control us.

The issues of pro-life and pro-family (Biblical family) are two issues that Christians must support. There are many Bible verses that prove life begins at conception, not to mention scientific evidence. A person who wants to vote Biblically has no choice but to vote for the candidate who is pro-life. A Christian who knowingly violates Scriptural teachings has sinned against God, the one who gave the commands. The commands are not manmade or merely church teachings. Some people don't want to know the truth; they want to appease the conscience. God created the first marriage in the Garden of Eden and established this relationship as a holy union. Marriage also teaches us about the Christian's union with Christ. He is the Bridegroom, and the church (entire body of Christians) is His bride. Any physical relations other than those of a married man and woman are referred to as fornication in the Bible, the broadest term for immorality that includes premarital sex, extra-marital sex, same-gender sex and even pornography. The Greek word translated fornication is porneo, the root of our English word pornography. Christians who desire to follow their Savior must vote for a candidate that supports the Biblical model of the family.

Other issues which Christians should use to decide on a candidate are religious freedom, freedom of speech and pro-capitalism, just to name a few. These are rights we have as Americans, not as Christians. The Bible doesn't guarantee us these freedoms, but if we as Christians don't support and promote these freedoms, we could easily lose some freedoms that we enjoy as Americans. Vote wisely. Vote Biblically. Vote issues. Then pray for God to bless America and for America to bless God.
