Opinion: We need substance and plans more than slogans and bluster

Posted

Our nation faces many challenges that will require a president with the courage and the vision to take on the special interests that have upended our democracy and put middle class families on the back-burner. As a retired officer of the United States Air Force and a combat fighter pilot, as well as a former member of the South Carolina Senate for over three decades, I know good leadership when I see it. I believe Sen. Elizabeth Warren has the proven track record and thought-out plans to make our government start working for all Americans.

I have followed her work, read her book and spoken with her. I know she can do the job and do it well for all of us, not just a select few. Whether the selection is based on gender, race, wealth or ethnicity or any other criteria, it is not what made America what it is today, nor will it help even the selected few in the long run.

One of the things I like best about her is that she is not a cliche. She thinks and talks in substantive ways. We need substance over slogans and bluster now more than ever.
