Posted

On Sunday, June 19, 2022, our beloved Orlando Tremayne Clyburn, affectionately known as "Poopie," ascended to his heavenly home with the Lord Jesus Christ. Orlando was born on Feb. 9, 1970, in Sumter County, a son of the late Charlie Pressey and Willie Mae Clyburn. He attended the public schools of Sumter County and graduated from Sumter High School in 1988. During his early walk in Christian faith, Orlando was a member of New Life Bible Church in Sumter under the leadership of the pastor, the Rev. Nate Brock. Later in life, he became a member under watch care of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Laurens. Orlando loved the Lord and had a great love for gospel music and, therefore, shared his love and passion for the Lord by singing on several choirs in the church and community. Orlando was an active member of the United Voices for Christ Choir, Mt. Zion Mass and All-Male Chorus, Tumbling Shoals Association Choir, White Plains Mass Choir and All-Male Chorus.

Orlando, our gentle giant, had a great love for sports. He played football with the Sumter High School Fighting Gamecocks from 1984 to 1988, where he played the position of offensive lineman at right tackle under the leadership of Coach Tom Lewis. In his years at Sumter High School, he was also a track and field letterman and member of the JROTC program. Orlando also played as defensive tackle from 1988 to 1993 with the Presbyterian College Blue Hose football, where he was also a track and field letterman. At PC, he was an active member of the Student Fellowship Choir, Minority Student Union officer and ROTC. Orlando always loved football, and he had a special love for the NFL Carolina Panthers.

Orlando received his Bachelor of Science degree in Economic Business Administration from Presbyterian College in 1993. Early in his career, he worked at Gold Kist Inc. in Sumter as a supervisor. Later in his career, Orlando became an experienced store manager, where he worked many years at Rex TV and Appliance from 1997 to 2009 and continued working subsequently at Verizon and Aaron's. While residing in Greenwood, Orlando was also a substitute teacher for Greenwood School District 50 from 2013 to 2017. More recently, Orlando was the assistant unit manager at KFC in Greenwood, where he worked faithfully, until his health declined.

Orlando was always big in stature, but always gentle in heart and displayed many acts of care and love for his family, friends and all those that loved and surrounded him. He had a big heart and passion for the love and unity of family and was always very supportive of all.

Orlando leaves his legacy and memories in the hearts of his family and friends.

He is survived by one son, Arland D'Angelo Livingston of Sumter; six siblings, Debra Clyburn-Wilson of Sumter, William Clyburn III (Joan) of Columbia, Terrie McClam (Melvin) of Sumter, Brent Clyburn (Tracy) of Eden, North Carolina, Fernaundra Brooks of Sumter and Andrietta Atkinson (Dawain) of Fayetteville, North Carolina; a very special friend, Carla Jones of Laurens; one great-aunt; five aunts; two uncles; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
