The state consumes more and more resources, and despite what some believe, it does not produce anything. The resources it consumes is your money! And by consume I mean steal. It takes a portion of your income before you get it. If you don't pay it, they take it by force. That's theft. I didn't agree to pay for a 17-year war in Afghanistan or Social Security or funding for arts or health care for anyone else.
Here is an idea. Cut defense spending to what is necessary for defense of America. Stop trying to police the world and spread democracy through bombs. It doesn't work. Make Social Security optional. End welfare programs and turn it over to private organizations like churches. They are more efficient, and they have incentive to help people improve their lives and become self-sufficient, unlike government. Repeal the income tax. Let people keep what they earn. Americans are generous and will not let their neighbor go hungry. Finally, stop pretending like a conservative or a Democrat will save us. Government can't, and it won't.

Rothbard, Anatomy of the State
