The win swept the 2-game series with Orangeburg on the season, and was the second shutout win for Sumter in as many games. The P'15's (now 6-2 overall) took a 10-0 non-league win in six innings against Hampton Post 108 at Riley Park on Friday.
Sumter, which improved to 4-1 in league play, posted two runs in the second inning, three runs in the fourth inning and an insurance run in the seventh inning.
In a strong team showing, Sumter got a run apiece from six different players.
Jackson Hoshour led the way at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs batted in. Joey Pereira added a 2-for-4 night, with a double, an RBI and a run scored, while Rylan Williamson went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
Jacob Holladay went all seven innings on the mound to pick up the win for Sumter, collecting three strikeouts against just two walks and two hits, while facing just 26 batters.
Daulton Dabbs and Ryan Moore led off the second inning by reaching on an error and a single, respectively. A fielder's choice grounder moved both into scoring position before Sumter struck for its first runs on back-to-back RBI-singles from Williamson and Cory Blackley.
After a fly out-ground out-strikeout third inning at-bat, the P-15's were back in the business of scoring runs in the fourth inning. Pereira and Williamson led off the inning with back-to-back singles, before both advanced a base on a sacrifice bunt from Daniel Twitty, who reached first safely on an error. With the bases loaded, Hoshour singled in Pereira and Williamson with a drive to left field. Then Twitty scored after tagging up on a fly out to left by Chandler Hunter.
Trent Frye reached on a one-out walk in the top of the seventh and later scored the final run of the game on a fielder's choice ground out.
Heston Thompson and South Carolina Aiken signee Austin Sandifer were the only Post 4 batters to register a base hit for Orangeburg.
Post 4 only had a runner reach as far as second base on three occasions in the contest, including a double from Thompson with two outs in the fourth inning.
Andrew Isgett pitched six innings for Orangeburg and shouldered the loss, allowing two earned runs off eight hits, while collecting a strikeout and issuing no walks. Chandler Moorer and Jacob Hall took turns on the mound to combine for an inning of relief.
Sumter made two errors on the night, while Orangeburg had three miscues.
Sumter plays at Hampton today. Orangeburg, 3-4 overall, plays at Manning-Santee today.
