PATSY HOWARD RIVERS

Funeral services for Patsy Howard Rivers will be held at noon on Saturday at High Hills Baptist Church, 6750 Meetinghouse Road, Dalzell, with the Rev. Keith Mayes Sr. officiating. Interment will follow at High Hills AME Cemetery.

Mrs. Rivers will be placed in the church at 11 a.m. on Saturday until the hour of service.

She was a daughter of the late John Howard and Sarah Howard Gadson and the wife of the late David Rivers.

Mrs. Rivers, 82, transitioned on Monday, Jan. 28, 2019, at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital.

She was educated in the Catchall public schools and was a graduate of Hillcrest High School. Mrs. Rivers was a lifelong member of High Hill AME Church, where she served in several auxiliaries to include the floral club, missionary society, ushers ministry, stewardess and as a Sunday school teacher. In her community, she was a member of the Golden Girls. She was previously employed by Oakland Elementary School, Cypress Nursing Home, Tuomey hospital, Wateree Community Action Head Start Program and finally as a personal caregiver.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, David; two sisters, Gertrude Snow and Louise Brooks; and one brother, Nathaniel Howard.

Survivors include three daughters, Rosa Rivers (Isaac McGill) of Columbia, Deborah (Terrence) Curry of Dunwoody, Georgia, and Patricia Rivers of Dalzell; three sons, Clyde (Philamenia) Rivers of Norcross, Georgia, Merrial (Mary Alice) Rivers of Dalzell and Robert (Kathryn) Rivers of Columbia; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mamie Lee Arthur of Columbia and Renda Dixon of Horatio; two brothers, Lewis (Emma) Howard of Horatio and Henry Howard of Staten Island, New York; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Palmer Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
