Pattie Jefferson Gibson, widow of Clarence L. Gibson Sr., was born on Aug. 17, 1923, in Mayesville, to the late William "Bill" and Julia Dix Jefferson. Mrs. Gibson died peacefully at her home on Saturday, April 13, 2019, surrounded by her loving family.

She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and began her Christian journey at Ebenezer African Methodist Episcopal Church, where she served faithfully through the years in many capacities. She attended the public schools of Sumter County and furthered her studies at Florence-Darlington Technical College, Central Carolina Technical College and University of South Carolina Sumter.

Mrs. Pattie leaves to cherish her memories: two sons, George (Sarah) Gibson and William (Lillie) Gibson, both of Mayesville; three daughters, Jessie Washington of Mayesville, and Wilhelmina Washington and Irene Gibson of the home; a daughter-in-law, Sandra Gibson of Sumter; 22 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; a very special niece and extraordinary caregiver, Gladys W. Titus; three sisters-in-law, Jeanie Jefferson, Nancy Jefferson and Helen Walker; a host of loving nieces, nephews, other relatives and many special friends, young and old.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Julia Williams; three sons, Clarence Gibson Jr., the Rev. Malachi Gibson and James Dennis Gibson; three grandchildren, George Russell Gibson, Jacquelyn Webb and Pamela Denise Washington; one great-grandson, Isaac Hayes; one son-in-law, Robert Washington; and 11 siblings, Irene Jefferson, Harry Jefferson, Sue Mae Hines, Primus Jefferson, Alonza Jefferson, Ivory Jefferson, Clara Reese, Mary Louise Wilson, George Jefferson, William M. Jefferson and Roy Jefferson.

Public viewing will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. today at Job's Mortuary with Omega Service of OES at 6:30 p.m.

Mrs. Gibson will be placed in the church at 11 a.m. on Saturday for viewing until the hour of service.

Funeral services will be held at noon on Saturday at Salem Chapel & Heritage Center, 101 S. Salem Ave., Sumter, SC 29150 with Pastor Phillip L. Washington, eulogist, and the Rev. William Jefferson presiding. Interment will follow at Mayesville Community Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the home, 390 Wilson St., Mayesville, SC 29104.
