PEARLIE MAE CHAMPAGNE

Pearlie Mae Champagne 89, departed this earthly life on Saturday, May 2, 2020, at Central DuPage Hospital, Winfield, Illinois.

She was born on Dec. 10, 1930, to the late Mary Adams. She was raised by her grandparents, the late Hampton and Susan Rembert, on a farm in Sumter County. As a young child, she attended Grant Hill Baptist Church. Pearlie was married to the late Isaac Champagne Sr. and they lived together in Sumter for more than 50 years. They were active members of Shepherd United Methodist Church. She retired from her position as a cook at the Shaw Air Force Base NCO Club. Her love for cooking was paired with her enjoyment of growing vegetables in her garden.

Pearlie spent the past two and half years in Naperville, Illinois, with her son, Isaac Champagne Jr. and daughter-in-law, Meriel. She also leaves to mourn: her son, Edward D. Champagne; daughter-in-law, Brenda; five grandchildren, Reginald Champagne, Antwuan Champagne, Cristopher Champagne, Paula Goldstein and Valencia Champagne; five great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Viewing with visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday at the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel, Williams Funeral Home Inc., 821 N. Main St., Sumter.

Private graveside services for immediate family only will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Hillside Memorial Park, 3001 Cains Mill Road, Sumter, with the Rev. Raymond Cook, pastor of Shepherd United Methodist Church, officiating, eulogist.

The funeral procession will leave at 10 a.m. from Williams Funeral Home, 821 N. Main St., Sumter.
