Manning-Santee came out swinging in their American Legion season opener against the Sumter P-15's on Wednesday, cruising to a 21-6 win in five innings.
Manning did the bulk of its damage in the second inning, scoring 13 runs. The highlight was Britton Morris launching a grand slam off former Laurence Manning teammate Cam Branham to put Manning up 15-1.
Morris led the offensive attack with the grand slam and a double, driving in five runs. He walked twice, scoring three runs in the win. Stone Coward added a pair of hits and three RBIs, while Henry Swicord and Keaton Wildes each drove in pair. Swicord had three hits in the win. Tyler June, Mickey Jordan, Jackson Brown and Tyler Callen each added an RBI in the win.
Manning finished with 14 hits and drew seven walks win the win.
Bryce Acord pitched all five innings for Manning, allowing three earned runs on eight hits.
Travis Pillsbury led Sumter offensively, going 3-3 with a home run and two RBIs. Tyler Jones, Austin Trapp and Clayton Goff each added an RBI.
Sumter used five pitchers in the defeat with starter John Kolb taking the loss after allowing nine runs, three of which were unearned, in 1 1/3 innings of work.
