LEXINGTON (AP) — Two people survived after a plane crashed Thursday into a South Carolina lake, authorities said.
The crash occurred about 1:45 p.m. on Lake Murray near Taylor's Cove Road in Gilbert, the Lexington County Sheriff's Department said.
The pilot cited engine trouble as the reason for the crash, news outlets reported.
Two adults were on board, and neither was injured, deputies said.
Caleb Krick witnessed the crash with his brother and sister and confirmed seeing two people get away from the plane, WIS-TV reported.
"Our jaws just kind of dropped. We didn't really understand what was happening, and we were like 'Where are the people?' You know there's people obviously in there," Krick said.
He said he believed some residents of the neighborhood let the couple wait in their home to get warm while deputies investigated the crash.
"They were drenched in water," Krick said.
