Police searching for vehicle, driver in hit-and-run that injured Sumter pedestrian

Sumter police are working to locate the vehicle and identify the driver involved after a pedestrian was injured in a hit-and-run crash after 5 p.m. Saturday.

A 61-year-old Sumter man was crossing the intersection of Fulton Street and Lafayette Drive when he was struck by a vehicle turning left onto Lafayette Drive, according to Tonyia McGirt, public information officer for the Sumter Police Department.

The vehicle, captured by video surveillance as it passed a nearby convenience store, is described as a small blue-gray, four-door car.

The pedestrian was taken to Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital where he was treated and later released.
