Power outages reported in Sumter, Clarendon, Lee counties amid winter storm

Minor icing is being reported in the Central Midlands with a few reports of sleet and freezing rain north of Sumter as a winter storm moves through the area.

As of 4:30 p.m., Duke Energy recorded 3,153 outages impacting 89,138 customers in the Carolinas, including 766 in Lee County and 473 in Sumter County.

The Electric Cooperatives of South Carolina showed 31,820 meters without power, including one in Clarendon County, 508 in Lee County and 1,049 in Sumter County, all from Black River Electric.

As of 1 p.m., there were 2,713 Duke Energy outages impacting 105,251 customers, including 52 in Clarendon County, 1,239 in Lee County and 1,330 in Sumter County.

There were also 43,413 meters without power across the state’s electric cooperatives, including 1,266 in Lee County and 422 in Sumter County from Black River Electric Cooperative, as of 1 p.m.

As of 10:45 a.m., there were a total of 1,575 power outages reported by Duke Energy in the Carolinas impacting 56,739 customers, including 64 customers in Clarendon County, 1,348 in Lee County and 2,983 in Sumter County.

There were 1,458 Black River Electric Cooperative meters without power in Sumter County, 263 in Lee County and five impacted in Clarendon County.

As of about 9:15 a.m., there were about 4,000 Duke Energy accounts without power, according to their online outage map, including areas between Cherryvale and Stateburg as well as a large area north of downtown Sumter between Guignard and Lafayette drives.

The company is reporting 843 total active outages in the Carolinas affecting 38,271 customers, including 64 in Clarendon County, 934 in Lee County and 4,276 in Sumter County.

Black River Electric Cooperative recorded 536 meters without power.

The forecast has not changed, with cold rain continuing Sunday with the possibility of wind gusts downing some trees or power lines that have accumulated ice.
