STAFF REPORT

In October, Prisma Health will launch its annual Midlands and Upstate community flu vaccination campaign as part of its system-wide effort to offer protection from the highly contagious virus.

The flu shot, available for anyone 6 months and older, will be offered at multiple drive-through sites to maximize community access. These sites will offer only flu shots. Limited high-dose flu vaccines will be offered for people age 65 and older.

On Saturday, Oct. 15, a drive-through clinic will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Sumter High School, 2580 McCrays Mill Road. Drivers are asked to enter through Gate 1.

Please wear loose-fitting clothing that can easily roll up. Face masks are required. Consent forms are required and available at each site. A valid driver's license or photo ID also is required. There is no out-of-pocket cost to receive a flu shot. Health insurance is not required, but please bring your insurance card if you have it. Children under the age of 16 require a parent/guardian signature. Flu shots are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

"It's more important than ever to get your flu vaccination," said Angela Jenkins, Prisma Health vice president of accountable communities. "We are hearing from experts that after two years of reduced influenza cases, it may rebound strongly this year. We want to help everyone protect themselves and their family. Getting your annual flu vaccination does not always prevent getting the flu, but it can reduce the severity of illness and save lives."
