Robert Wilber Hawkins, 96, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 10, 2021, at The Gardens of Sumter.
Born on Feb. 7, 1925, at Pisgah Crossroads, to the late Samuel Wilson Hawkins and Lula Baker Hawkins, he grew up in Ashwood. A firm believer in the New Testament church and ministry, he opened his home for Sunday morning meetings for more than 50 years to like-minded Christians. (reference Philemon 1:1,2).
He was preceded in death by his parents and beloved wife of 66 years, Sue P. Hawkins.
Wilbur is survived by two brothers, Aubrey (Grace) and Tommy (Martha); and a sister, Anna Jackson (Harold, deceased). Also surviving are two sons, Cecil (Dot) of Greenville and David (Evy) of Sumter; as well as five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at Lamar Cemetery in Lamar.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home.
