RAYMOND EARL VAUGHN

Raymond Earl Vaughn was born on July 21, 1950, in Sumter County, a son of the late James and Willie Lou Guest Vaughn. To his family and friends, he was affectionately known as "HaHa" or "Hawk." Raymond departed this life on Sunday, April 7, 2019.

Raymond attended Clark United Methodist Church, where he accepted Christ at an early age. Mr. Vaughn graduated from St. Jude Catholic High School Class of 1968. He served in the United States Army in Korea and was honorably discharged after three years of military service. He then enrolled and graduated from New York City Culinary School, becoming a chef. Raymond moved back to Sumter to assist his parents in their elderly age. Raymond was a compassionate and generous person. He loved visiting and volunteering at the hospital and was always there to assist others.

Those left to cherish his memories are a daughter, Alecisha Smith of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; a brother, Thomas (Frances) Vaughn of The Villages, Florida; two sisters, Jimmy L. Vaughn of Brooklyn, New York, and Constance "Betty" Vaughn of Washington, D.C.; a special cousin, Tony Mathis of Sumter; and a host of nephews, other relatives and friends.

Public viewing will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. today at Job's Mortuary.

Mr. Vaughn will be placed in the church at 9 a.m. on Thursday for viewing until the hour of service.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday at Salem Chapel & Heritage Center, 101 S. Salem Ave., Sumter, SC 29150. Interment will follow at Fort Jackson National Cemetery in Columbia.

Job's Mortuary Inc., 312 S. Main St., Sumter, is in charge of arrangements.
