RAYMOND HARTFORD BARNHILL III

Raymond Hartford Barnhill III, age 71, beloved husband of 28 years to Wanda Kolb Barnhill, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 7, 2019, at his residence.

Born in Wilson, North Carolina, he was a son of the late Raymond Hartford Barnhill Jr. and Dorothy Lewis Morgan. Raymond served seven years as a member of the U.S. Army. During his service, he received several commendation letters for a job well done in aviation school and aerial fire ranges. Achieving the rank of sergeant, he also received many declaration medals and badges as well. After his time in the service, Raymond worked as an electrician and eventually owned his own electrical company, Chapman Electric, here in Sumter. Raymond loved his family and will be remembered as a very loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his wife Wanda, he is survived by a stepfather, James Morgan of LaGrange, North Carolina; a daughter, Wanda J. Barnhill of Alabama: two stepdaughters, Rhonda Talbert Brendidge and her husband, Alan, of Alabama and Tiffany Vaughan and her husband, Jerry, of Monks Corner; two stepsons, Steve Mahaffey and his wife, Tammy, of Alabama and Johnathan Kolb of Rembert; one adopted son, William McCray of Georgetown; one brother, Dempsey Harris Jr. and his wife, Sue, of Jacksonville, North Carolina; three sisters, LaRue H. Sutton of LaGrange, Greta H. Sutton and her husband, Clifton, of LaGrange and Gwendolyn C. Wells of Sumter; seven grandchildren, Shane Barnhill, Brandon Barnhill, Brittny Treadway, Dylan Treadway, Jonathan Kolb, Brandon Kolb and Kaydron Crowder; and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Marjene Barnhill; and a brother, Jerry Barnhill.

A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 20, 2019, at the residence.
