MURRELLS INLET - Raymond Leroy Hamilton, 97, widower of Susan McCoy Moore Hamilton, died on Thursday, March 19, 2020, at his home.

Born on Oct. 10, 1922, in Arcadia, Kansas, he was a son of the late Walter Byron Hamilton and Goldie Emaline Spoonhour Hamilton. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and the owner and operator of the Sumter News from 1967 to 1981. He attended Calvary Bible Church in Sumter.

He is survived by a daughter, Beth Hamilton Klimek of Dahlonega, Georgia; two sons, Alan Ray Hamilton of Murrells Inlet and Mark Leroy Hamilton (Ellen) of Paxville; 11 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; a brother, Pete Hamilton of Texas; and a sister, Leona Teague (Burns) of Hutchinson, Kansas.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Grace Hamilton.

A private graveside service will be held at 4 p.m. on Sunday at Manning Cemetery with the Rev. Rodney Howard and the Rev. Marion Zeigler officiating.
