REL drops to third; Sumter, LMA, Clarendon Hall hold spots in polls

REL drops to third; Sumter, LMA, Clarendon Hall hold spots in polls

Robert E. Lee Academy fell from the top of the SCISA 2A football poll in the S.C. Prep Media Football Poll released on Tuesday following its 52-41 loss to Florence Christian School last Friday.

Each of the other local ranked teams - Sumter High School, Laurence Manning Academy and Clarendon Hall - held their ground in their respective polls.

REL fell from the ranks of the undefeated - and from the top of the poll - with the loss to FCS, the defending 2A state champion. The Eagles jumped from fourth all the way to second as Trinity-Byrnes moved from second to a unanimous No. 1.

Sumter had a bye week and held on to fifth in the SCHSL 5A poll. The Gamecocks play at Blythewood on Friday.

LMA is still ranked second in SCISA 3A behind behemoth Hammond. The Skyhawks are the unanimous No. 1 and will play host to the 7-0 Swampcats on Friday.

Clarendon Hall is still No. 2 in the SCISA 8-man poll behind unanimous top pick Andrew Jackson Academy. Both teams are undefeated.

Dutch Fork and Myrtle Beach are the only unanimous No. 1 in the SCHSL polls. Dutch Fork is No. 1 in 5A.Byrnes is second while Dorman moved into a tie for third place with Fort Dorchester. After Sumter at No. 5 is Clover, Carolina Forest, River Bluff, T.L. Hanna and Gaffney.

Myrtle Beach is at the top of the 4A poll followed by Daniel and South Pointe. Wilson moved to fourth and A.C. Flora, which beat Lakewood 34-14 last week, is now fifth.

Dillon sits atop the 3A poll with nine first-place votes. Chapman is second and has four first-place votes.

Abbeville is still No. 1 in the 2A poll and picked up 12 first-place votes. Barnwell is second and got the other first-place vote.

Wagener-Salley is still the only undefeated team in 1A and held on to the top spot with nine No. 1 votes. Defending state champion Green Sea-Floyds is second and got four No. 1 votes.

Thomas Heyward is No.1 in the SCISA 1A poll. It received four of the six first-place votes. No. 2 Carolina Academy got the other two.
