TURBEVILLE — Palmetto Heath-USC Family Medicine will hold a ribbon cutting and open house for its newest family practice, Turbeville Family Practice, on Friday from 1 to 3 p.m. Remarks will begin at 1:30 p.m.

The new practice at 944 Smith St. opened in recent weeks and offers general health care services for acute illnesses and chronic conditions as well as annual wellness exams. Kate E. Smith, M.D., who has practiced in the area for many years and is well established in the community, will be the primary provider. Logan Sims will serve as the nurse practitioner. The practice will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Scheduled appointments are recommended.

The opening of the Turbeville practice is part of a wider effort by the Medical Group to extend its expertise into the Midlands rural communities, many which previously were underserved.

“Since the inception of the Palmetto Health-USC Medical Group, we have been committed to expanding access to care throughout our local communities,” said Kevin Boggs, Palmetto Health-USC Medical Group chief operating officer. “We are proud to expand our family medical care services in Clarendon County as we continue to seek ways to improve the health and well-being in those areas.”
