Graveside services for Bishop Robert Allen James Jr., 49, will be held at 11 a.m. today at Antioch Memorial Garden, River Road, Pinewood, with Bishop Powell Hampton officiating.

Bishop James was born on Feb. 21, 1971, in Thomasville, North Carolina, a son of the late Robert Allen James Sr. and Jeraldine Lawson James. He was called from labor to his eternal rest on Thursday, Aug. 6, 2020.

He attended the public schools of Clarendon County and was a graduate of Scott's Branch High School, Claflin University and Campbell Bible College of the Holy Spirit. He pastored the following: Reformed Methodist Episcopal Churches Jerusalem, Orange Hill, New Bethel and Mt. Hermon. He was elected and consecrated bishop in July 2016. He was a member of Silver Lodge 35, CC Johnson 136 Consistory Lodge, New Hope Chapter 38 Holy Royal Arch Mason and was a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife of 25 years, Tina Lawson James; four children, Davonte' R. James, Robert A. James III, Aqukwelle Q. James and Ashley L. James; a brother, Walker Green; three sisters, Brenda (Jessie) Johnson, Barbara James and Shelia (Alphonzo) Choice; mother-in-law, Anne Mae Lewis; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation was held Thursday at Kingdom Builders Church, 621 W. Liberty St., Sumter.
