Robert E. Lee volleyball tops Marlboro Academy 3-1

BISHOPVILLE – The Robert E. Lee Academy volleyball team evened its SCISA Region IV-2A record at 3-3 with a 3-1 victory over Marlboro Academy on Monday at the REL gymnasium.
The Lady Cavaliers, who are 7-5 overall, won by the scores of 20-25, 25-8, 25-13, 25-19.
Sara Abbett Kirven led Robert E. Lee with 33 assists and six aces. Charley Norris had 21 digs, while Caleigh Barrett had 11 kills, Martha Jane Logan had five kills, Lacie McEleven had four aces and Madi Motley three blocks.
In the junior varsity match, Robert E. Lee won 2-0. It won by the scores of 25-17, 25-8.

Chestnut Oaks 2
Ebenezer Middle School’s volleyball team defeated Chestnut Oaks 3-2 on Monday at the EMS gymnasium.
The Lady Tigers won by the scores of 25-20, 25-20, 25-27, 23-25. 15-6.
Laken Wright led Ebenezer with 12 aces.
Hillcrest 3
R.E. Davis 1
The Hillcrest Middle School volleyball team improved to 5-1 with a 3-1 victory over R. E. Davis on Monday at the RED gymnasium.
The Lady Wildcats won by the scores of 25-13, 19-25, 25-13, 25-14.
Mylese Bondurant had 15 service points with seven aces for the HMS. She had five straight aces in the final game.
Andraya Weeks had nine points, while Junnica Aparicio had eight digs and 12 assists. Jhamyah Billups had two kills.

GIRLS GOLF
Sumter 2nd, Wilson Hall 3rd
The Sumter High School varsity girls golf team finished second to West Florence while West Florence was third in a tri-match at Beech Creek Golf Club.
West Florence won with a score of 197 followed by SHS at 222 and the Lady Barons at 224.
Audrey Shuping shot a 51 to lead the Lady Gamecocks followed by Danae Brunson with a 52.
Claire Kirkley led WH with a 52.
WF’s Madeline Ateyah and Julie Kleine both shot a 48 to earn medalist honors.


JV FOOTBALL
Laurence Manning 33
Ben Lippen 16
MANNING – Laurence Manning Academy’s junior varsity football team defeated Ben Lippen 33-16 on Thursday at Billy Chitwood Field.
Jackson Brown scored two touchdowns to lead the Swampcats. Brandon King, Tyler June and Bryson Smith scored a touchdown apiece.


Operation Warm Heart
Tournament Oct. 18
The first Operation Warm Heart Golf Tournament will be held on Friday, Oct. 18, at Beech Creek Golf Club.
The tournament is being presented by the Shaw Diamond Council with proceeds going to support airmen and their families in the Shaw Air Force Base and Sumter communities.
The format is a 4-person scramble, best ball tournament. The cost is $50 per person and $200 per team. That includes green fees, a cart and range balls.
Mulligan packages are available for $20. There will be prizes awarded to the first-, second- and third-place teams, the longest drive for a man and a woman, closest to the pin and the longest putt.
There will be a free lunch of pulled pork barbecue, cole slaw, baked beans and a drink.
