ROBERT INGRAM

Posted

Robert Ingram, 79, husband of Noverline Davis Ingram, departed this life on Sunday, Nov. 3, 2019, at Sumter Health & Rehab Center.

He was born on Oct. 2, 1940, in Florence County, a son of the late David and Gertie Nero Ingram.

"Robert" leaves to cherish Noverline, the girl he was watching in school, the lady he told, "I will give you all my strength and die to make you stronger. Honey, I want you to be happy." Together they shared 58 years of marriage and six children, giving them all nicknames: three girls, Dorothy "PeeWee" Ingram, Lela "Tuey" Sigler and Mary "Moonk" (James) McGill, all of Sumter; and three sons, Robert Kennedy "Kent" Ingram of Olanta, the late John Calvin "Son" and Terrence Le'Antonio "Tamp" Ingram of Heavenly Skies. He also raised grandsons as his own. He said, "If they were born in 'his' house, they were to stay at his house." He raised Jimmy Jaurreau Sigler of Bishopville, Robert Gerome "Rome" McFadden and James "Mony" McGill Jr. of Jacksonville, Florida, and the late Adrian LarBar "Ajah" Ingram of Heavenly Skies. This was one of the greatest joys, to start out being a granddad of "all boys." "DuBeck" has 14 grandchildren (11 grandsons and three granddaughters) and 21 great-grandchildren (11 boys and 10 girls). He also leaves to cherish one great-great-grandson, Logan Ferguson. Oh, the joys of having 23 boys and, of course, 13 girls.

Robert mournfully leaves his 96-year-old mother, Gertie Ingram of Sumter; six sisters, Rosa Lee (Curtis) Scott, Annie (Robert) Wilson, Ella Ingram and Dorothy Blair, all of Sumter, Betty (Charles) White of Philadelphia and Samantha Ingram of Lynchburg; and three brothers, William Ingram of Sumter, Howard Ingram of Philadelphia and David Bernard Ingram of Lynchburg. There are two sisters-in-law, Margaret (Pattamas) Jones of Orangeburg and Mary Lee Jenkins of Buffalo, New York; and a host of other family and friends.

Others who succumbed to life's way, maternal grandparents, William "WJ" and Charlotte Nero; aunts, Anna Fullard, Artimore McElveen and Edna Goodman; uncles, Elias Ingram and Shine Nero; in-laws, George and Nellie Davis and their sons, Alray and George Davis Jr.

Public viewing will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. today at Job's Mortuary.

Mr. Ingram will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. on Saturday for viewing until the hour of service.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Mt. Zion Freewill Baptist Church, Olanta, with the pastor, the Rev. McGill, and pastor, the Rev. Cortell Woods, eulogist.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 8 p.m. daily at the home, 10570 Nero Circle, Olanta, SC 29114.
