ROSEMELL MAPLE EMERY

Posted

Rosemell "Janet" Maple Emery was born Dec. 31, 1939, in Sumter, to the late Jerry and Marie Maple. She departed this life on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2019, at Sommerset Assisted Living Facility in Atlanta.

Melvyn Emery was stationed at Shaw Air Force when he met "Janet" and, after a short "courting" period, asked her parents for permission to marry her. They married on Dec. 17, 1955, and from this union three children were born. Janet spent more than 10 years working at the Shaw Air Force Base Exchange in military clothing sales. She later transitioned to become a manager of GNC in the Sumter Mall. She loved God and Allen Chapel AME Church, of which she was a member for more than 30 years.

She leaves to cherish her memory: her three children, Thomas (Imelda) Emery, Deborah (Kevin) Howard and Diann Threat; five grandchildren, Shenelle (Michael) Weathers, Thomas Howard, David Howard, Jaylen Threat and Julian Threat; five great-grandchildren, Caden Roberts, Michael Weathers, Nyla Howard, Gianna Howard and Wade Howard; three brothers, Jerry Maple, Sam (Patricia) Maple and Bernard (Audrey) Maple; two sisters, Ruth Oliver and Williamena Easley; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Rosemell was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years in 2014.
