It is with great sadness that the family of Ruby Mae Burgess Pearson announces her transition from this life to her eternal resting place on Thursday, Nov. 8, 2018, at her residence at the age of 75.

Ruby was born on April 27, 1943, in Clarendon County, to the late Thomas "Poppa" Burgess Sr. and Avie "Mumma" Burgess. She attended the public school system of Sumter County, where she earned her high school diploma. She went on to graduate from Sumter Beauty College as a cosmetologist. She also attended the University of South Carolina, Sumter, where she earned her training in computer science and technology. Early on, Ruby worked at Wards BBQ, her first job, as a cook. She went on to work at Becton Dickinson, where she later retired after more than 30 years of service. During that time, she also owned a successful beauty salon called Avis Style Center. Ruby was no stranger to hard work and dedicated her life to taking care of her family. She attended Grant Hill Missionary Baptist Church, where she served on numerous organizations including the missionary society, the YWA and the senior choir. She was affiliated with many other organizations and youth programs.

Ruby married Herbert W. Pearson in 1962 when she was just 18 years old. They built a wonderful life together. Her reflections on her life were ones filled with much love and gratitude for being blessed and loved by so many. She enjoyed having family and friends around.

She will be sadly missed and leaves to cherish in her memories: eight children, Ron (Doretha) Pearson, Blake Pearson, Larry (Dianne) Pearson, Darrell Burgess, Melissa Moses and Tonya Pearson, all of Sumter, Patrick (Josephine) Pearson of San Diego, California, and Herbert (Donna) Pearson of Atlanta; five sisters, Marie Martin, O'Dell Burgess, Lillie Vaughn, Shirley King and Shelby B. Carter; two brothers, Rommie Burgess and Willie H. Burgess (Joe Joe); 24 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; special friend, Magellan Arrington; a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.

The family is receiving relatives and friends at the home, 1348 Genesis Road, Dalzell.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday at Grant Hill Missionary Baptist Church, 5401 Black River Road, Rembert, with the Rev. Clifton Witherspoon, pastor, eulogist.

The remains will be placed in the church at noon.

The funeral procession will leave at 12:20 p.m. from the home.

Burial will be at Grant Hill Missionary Baptist Churchyard Cemetery.
