Ruby Mae Champagne, 74, transitioned to her heavenly home on Thursday, Dec. 28, 2017, at Palmetto Health Richland hospital, Columbia.
Born on July 13, 1943, in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Clyde and Margaret Anthony Oliver. She received her schooling in the public schools of Sumter County. In her youth, she joined Antioch United Methodist Church. She was united in marriage to the late Johnnie Mickens and later united with Willie Champagne.
She leaves to cherish her memories: her husband, Willie Champagne of Sumter; four sons, John (Deborah) Mickens, Micheal Champagne and Willie J. Oliver, all of Sumter, and James (Faye) Mickens of Columbia; two daughters, Johnnie Mae Mickens of Maryland and Cheryl Mickens Tomlin of Sumter; one brother, James Oliver of Sumter; two sisters, Mary Oliver of Sumter and Margie (John Henry) Jenkins of New Jersey; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family is receiving relatives and friends at the home, 205 Armstrong Blvd., Sumter.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday at Antioch United Methodist Church, 4040 Dubose Siding Road, Sumter, with the Rev. Raymond Cook, pastor, eulogist.
The remains will be placed in the church at noon.
The procession will leave at 12:20 p.m. from the home.
Burial will be at White's Cemetery.
