Sammie Anderson was born on March 26, 1935, in Sumter, to the late Frank and Josephine Walker Anderson. He departed this life on Sunday, April 14, 2019, at his residence in Wedgefield, after being strong and fighting a hard battle of illness.

Sammie was educated in the public schools of Sumter County. He was a farmer, landscaper, loving father, grandfather and devoted husband, until his wife's death. At an early age, he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.

He leaves to cherish his memories: six daughters, Catherine Anderson (Andrew) of Jersey City, New Jersey, Delores Moody (George), Betty (Herman) Wright, Lucille Anderson, Loria (Erwin) China and Dorothy Conyers, all of Wedgefield; 19 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; a devoted friend, Calvin Brooks; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, Sammie was preceded in death by his wife, Louellen Anderson; two sons, James "Tootsie" Anderson and Sammie Anderson Jr.; two grandsons, Erwin Anderson and James Anderson Jr.; six sisters, Juanita Johnson, Irene Brown, Matilda Smith, Marie Benson, Jessie Jennings and Mary Brown; and six brothers, Frankie, Warren, Hardy, Jessie, George and Hosie Anderson.

Public viewing will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. today at Job's Mortuary.

Mr. Anderson will be placed in the church at 3 p.m. on Saturday for viewing until the hour of service.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday at Salem Chapel & Heritage Center, 101 S. Salem Ave., Sumter, SC 29150 with Apostle Sylvester Francis officiating. Interment will follow at Walker Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the home, 63A Sally St., Wedgefield, SC 29168.

Job's Mortuary Inc., 312 S. Main St., Sumter, is in charge of arrangements.
