SAMUEL MAHONEY JR.

Samuel Mahoney Jr. was born on Aug. 12, 1942, in Sumter, to the late Samuel and Mary Gooden Mahoney. He departed this life on Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2021, at Sumter Health and Rehab East.

He attended the public schools of Sumter County and later moved to the Washington, D.C. area. He later returned home and was a member of Mt. Olive AME Church and was baptized. Sam enjoyed his family. He especially loved the little children. He was a person that would help you in any way if he could. He was full of life and sometimes a bit feisty.

He leaves to cherish his memories: two daughters, Carolyn (Bert) Jenkins of Sumter and Tawanna Miller (David) Delaney of Washington, D.C.; one brother, James (Katie) Mahoney of Sumter; three sisters, Johnnie Mae Mahoney of Sumter, Esther (Geoge) Rogers of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, and Lucille Mahoney Saunders of Washington, D.C.; brother-in-law, Ernest Jenkins of Sumter; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Samuel was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Mary Gooden Mahoney Sr.; one son, Alphonso Miller; one grandson; one brother and seven sisters.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Mt. Olive Memorial Garden, Pear Street, Woodrow, with the Rev. Dr. R.L. Brown officiating
