SAMUEL R. MOORE

DALZELL - Samuel R. "Sam" Moore took eternity leave on Saturday, June 1, 2019.

He was a son of Samuel F. Moore Jr. and Bonnie Smith Moore. Sam graduated from Hillcrest High School, where he played football, basketball and baseball. He worked his way through Clemson University, where he was a cadet captain and member of the Tiger Brotherhood. He served in the U.S Army as a second lieutenant and led a 30-man weather research team to the Greenland Ice Cap, very near the North Pole. The most humbling event in his life was when, after teaching only two years, the student body of Thomas Sumter Academy voted to dedicate the 1973 yearbook in his honor. Sam was a professional engineer and designed and supervised the construction of the fellowship hall and Sunday school facilities for Dalzell Baptist Church. He was a Baptist deacon for 45 years and president of High Hills Baptist Memorial Association for 36 years. Sam enjoyed gardening and sharing his fruits and vegetables with his neighbors and friends. Sam accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at the age of 15 and was baptized in the Old Ardis Mill Pond. He was sustained over the years by these words: "Life is real, Life is earnest, and the grave is not a goal, from dust thou art and to dust returneth was not spoken of the soul."

He is survived by his faithful wife, Lillian Beard Moore of 57 years; and three daughters, Edith Marie Moore, Ann Ren e Moore Frost and her husband, Duane, and Victoria Lynn Moore.

Although he had no grandchildren of his own, he experienced this love through the love of all the Franklin grandchildren and the special adopted granddaughter, Emily. It was beautiful.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Frances Ann Moore Vancil and Mary Beth Moore Jarvis.

Sam was born in the old Dalzell Baptist Church parsonage and will be buried among family and friends in the Tirzah Presbyterian Church Cemetery, just a stone's throw from where he was born. Ironically, this ends a streak - there has been a Sam Moore living continuously in the Dalzell community for 115 years.

A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday in the Bullock Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mark Payne officiating. Interment will follow at Tirzah Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Bullock Fuenral Home.
