SARA ODELL SPANN THAMES

Sara Odell Spann Thames, 86, widow of Willie Thames, departed this life on Sunday, Aug. 2, 2020, at her residence.

She was born on Nov. 1, 1933, in Pinewood, Clarendon County, a daughter of the late Harrison Spann Sr. and Ella Nora Johnson Spann. At an early age, she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and joined New Hope Union Methodist Church, Pinewood, where she served faithfully in many capacities. She later connected with Kingdom Builders Deliverance Ministries, where she continued working faithfully with many ministries. Mrs. Thames was educated in the public schools of Clarendon County during her elementary and middle school years. She also attended the public schools of Sumter County and graduated from Lincoln High School, Sumter. She furthered her education at Sumter Technical College. She was employed by Sumter School District 17 for 26 years. After retirement, she continued her employment with the South Carolina Disability Board for 16 years.

She leaves to cherish her memories: her children, Winifred D. Thames (Albert) Brown, Pamela Q. (Dennis) McFadden, Willie J. Thames Jr. and Clayton S. Thames; one sister, Louise (Lucius) Ragin; 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The family is receiving relatives and friends at the home of her daughter, 20 Victory Drive, Sumter.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Kingdom Memorial Park, U.S. 15 South, Sumter, with Bishop Leroy T. James, pastor of Kingdom Builders Deliverance Ministries, officiating.

The procession will leave at 10:10 a.m. from the home of her daughter.
