'Scholarship Lady' hosts college fair at Sumter High

Sumter native and resident Melinda Mihlbauer, founder of PACE Scholarship Academy, hosted a college scholarship fair Saturday at Sumter High School. More than 2,000 students and parents attended the free event, which was an opportunity for them to interact with about 75 scholarship foundations and college admissions counselors to learn what each looks for in potential recipients, she said. A certified professional school counselor, Mihlbauer is sometimes referred to as the "Scholarship Lady" because of the side venture. Her scholarship academy awarded multiple $500 scholarships to students at the fair, in addition to laptop and printer giveaways.
