School board meets Monday, back on regular meeting cycle

With the start of the school year beginning this upcoming week for teachers and Aug. 20 for students, Sumter School District's Board of Trustees gets back on its regular meeting rotation schedule Monday with its August board meeting.

A district staff member placed the agenda online for the media and the public on Friday.

During the school year, the trustees typically have their regular board meeting on the second Monday of each month and a work session on the fourth Monday.

Highlighted items from the meeting agenda include the regular superintendent's report from new district leader Penelope Martin-Knox. She will discuss her tour of all the district's schools and meeting with various administrators since she began in her position in July.

District Chief Financial Officer Jennifer Miller will also provide a monthly financial report to the board and a capital projects update, among other items, according to the agenda.

After an executive session behind closed doors, the trustees will return to open session to take action on several items.

Like all board-related meetings, Monday's meeting is open to the public, and public participation is also listed on the agenda. The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. at the district office, 1345 Wilson Hall Road.
