Funeral services for Sheila Ann James will be held at noon on Thursday at Mount Pisgah AME Church, 217 W. Bartlette St., Sumter, with the Rev. Laddie N. Howard officiating.

The public may view from 3 to 5 p.m. today at Palmer Memorial Chapel, 304 S. Main St., Sumter.

Interment will follow at Hillside Memorial Park, Sumter.

Ms. James will be placed in the church at 11 a.m. for further viewing until the hour of service.

Ms. James, 59, transitioned on Thursday, Feb. 7, 2019, in Augusta, Georgia.

Born in Sumter County, she was the only daughter of Emily Dixon James and the late Carl James Sr. Sheila was a graduate of Sumter High School Class of 1978. She earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Winthrop College (Winthrop University) in 1982. Later, in May of 2001, she obtained a graduate degree in conflict resolution at Columbia College, Columbia. Sheila held various positions in the Department of Defense at Fort Jackson in Columbia and later was as an equal employment opportunity specialist in the nation's capital at the Department of the Army. In 2008, she was transferred in the same capacity to Fort Gordon in Augusta.

Surviving are her loving mother, Emily Dixon James of Sumter; her brother, Arnold (Aida) James of Frederick, Maryland; nieces, Ani Boghossian-James and Ave Boghossian-James of Frederick; five aunts, Edith (Malachi) Wells of Waterford, Connecticut, Shirley A. James of Sumter, Ella "Tish" Wells of Rock Hill, Sarah Chiles of Columbia and Ella ( John) Gooden of Moncks Corner; one uncle, Charles James of East Orange, New Jersey; and a host of other relatives.

Palmer Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
