Shelly Anne Byerly, age 59, left this earth on Thursday, Aug. 6, 2020, to be with our heavenly father. After battling brain cancer, the Lord knew it was time for her to come home.
Shelly was a 22 1/2-year veteran of the Air Force. She spent years going overseas. She served in Serbia, Kosovo, Saudi Arabia, England, Korea and two different tours in Germany, one in Bitburg the other with NATO. After retirement, she went to work for the Auditor General of the Air Force. After 3 1/2 years, she went to work at the Veterans Hospital in Orlando, Florida, to set up the security system doing background checks on all personnel from doctors down to janitors. Shelly was a member of Beavelare Chapter OES 20 and Church of the Holy Comforter.
She is survived by her loving mother, Barbara Byerly; brother, Marvin G. Byerly; sisters, Sandra M. Uptagrafft and Cheryl Monroe Scott; nephews and nieces, Geffery Uptagrafft and his wife, Stacy, Anna Marie Uptagrafft, Stephan Byerly, Kaitlyn Byerly and Logan Byerly; and her aunts in England.
She was preceded in death by her father, Marvin G. Byerly Sr.; and her brother, Karl A. Byerly.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery with full military honors.
