Worship services for Shelly Rena Brooks-Gadson will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Lakewood High School Fine Arts Center, 350 Old Manning Road, Sumter, with the Rev. Sammie D. Simmons officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park.

A public viewing will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. today at the mortuary.

Shelly Rena Brooks-Gadson, wife of John Gadson, was born on July 15, 1959, in Sumter, a daughter of the late Albert Sr. and Lavinia Richbow Brooks.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her father and mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Gadson; one brother, Albert "Sam" Brooks Jr.; one sister, Lorretta Green; and one goddaughter, Keyanna "KeKe" McKenny.

Shelly transitioned on Thursday, June 20, 2019, in Wedgefield.

She leaves to cherish her loving memory: her husband, John Gadson; four children, Philip Brooks Sr., Earl Seymore Jr., Shantel (Maurice) Smith and Audrika Gadson; four children reared as her own, Moses (Natasha) Balls, Jennifer (Jay) Gooden Carmichael, Patsy Moore and Diamond Lowery; seven siblings, Essie Blanding, Calvin (Mosetta) Brooks, Theresa Balls, Jerline (Leroy) Holmes, Sarah (Charles) Howard, Susan (Tennie) Richburg and Timothy (Marilyn) Brooks; three sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law; one uncle, James (Rosa Lee) Brooks; 11 grandchildren; six godchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

The family is receiving friends at 645 Bronco Road, Wedgefield.
