A graveside service for Simon Leroy Richardson will be held today at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia, with the Rev. Brian Jones officiating.

Leroy was born in Pinewood, a son of the late Daisy Richardson Spann and was raised by his late grandparents, Agnes and Tolar Rhymes Richardson.

He transitioned on Saturday, July 4, 2020, at the home of his sister, Annie M. Johnson, in Pinewood.

Leroy, also known as "Shoo-pooh," attended Manchester High School. Mr. Richardson worked several jobs that included farming, school bus driver, long distance truck driver and worked in mechanics.

In addition to his mother, Daisy Richardson, and wife, Thomasenia Brown Richardson, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Paul Spann; grandmother, Agnes Rhymes Richardson; grandfather, Tolar Richardson; two brothers, David Lee Spann and Raymond Spann; and a nephew, Michael Anthony Spann.

Survivors include his sons, Ernest Brown and Maurice (Myesha) Richardson of Columbia, and James (Yolanda) Brown of Gastonia, North Carolina; daughter, Amy Richardson of Montgomery, Alabama; seven grandchildren; sister, Annie M. Johnson of Pinewood; brothers, Paul Spann Jr. of Sumter and Carl (Frances) Spann of Sacramento, California; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
