PAWLEYS ISLAND - Brooks Margaret Sloan of Dillon and Robert Scarborough Young of Sumter were united in marriage at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, 2019, at Litchfield Plantation.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roger McLellan Sloan of Dillon and the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Howard David Sloan of Dillon and Mr. Fred Gilbert Darby and the late Mrs. Donna Leopard Darby of Columbia. She graduated from Latta High School and The College of Charleston in May 2019. She is employed as a teacher's assistant at Porter Gaud.

The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Jeffrey Young of Sumter and the grandson of Mrs. Ceceilia Leach Steele and the late Mr. William Bryan Steele Sr., both of Sumter, the late Jacqueline McLendon Steele of Hartsville, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Rockwell Young Sr. of Sumter. He graduated from Wilson Hall and The Citadel in May 2019. He is employed as a project engineer by Lithko Contracting in Charleston.

The Rev. Matthew Dallas Adams officiated at the ceremony.

Music was provided by Palmetto Strings of Charleston; Lauren Williams, violinist; and Lonnie Root, cellist.

Escorted by her father, the bride wore a simple but sleek Stella York ballgown of lace and pearl Mikado fabric featuring a sheer bodice with hand-placed lace and corset-style exposed boning and fabric-covered buttons extending down the length of the train. She carried a mixture of white and light pink blooms with greenery and magnolia leaves.

Darby McLellan Sloan, sister of the bride, served as maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Jessie Riley, Alexander Saunders, Maddie Jordan, Terin Sims, Macy Hyatt, Ashlynn Carmichael, Karina Schuk, Carly Jones, Amalee Bingham and Caitlyn Fitzgerald. Ella James Hudson, niece of the bridegoom, and Georgianna Dodds served as flower girls.

The bridegroom's father served as best man. Groomsmen were Andrew Burckhalter, Matt Jordan, Cole Cleland, Talmadge Johnson, Jeff Godwin, Holland Johnson, Blake Duke, Grey Duke, John Patrick Sears, McLendon Sears, Carson Sloan, brother of the bride, and Will Young and Greyson Young, brothers of the bridegroom. Charles Britton Hudson IV, nephew of the bridegroom, and Brooks Adams and William Hart served as ring bearers.

The reception was hosted by the bride's parents at Litchfield Plantation.

The rehearsal party was hosted by the bridegroom's parents at Pawleys Plantation Golf and Country Club.

Following a wedding trip to Cancun, Mexico, the couple will reside on James Island.
