STANLEY BROOKS

Stanley "Butch" Brooks departed this life on Saturday, July 17, 2021, in Charlotte, North Carolina.

He was born on Nov. 23, 1953, in Sumter, to the late John J. and Lucille Mobley Brooks. He was a 1971 graduate of Hillcrest High School and shortly thereafter joined the United States Army, where he fought in the Vietnam War. After 20 years of service, he retired as a sergeant first class. He spent his retirement in Columbia and Charlotte.

He leaves to cherish his memory: three children, Stanley T. Brooks, Christopher L. Brooks and Jessica N. Brooks, all of Georgia; three brothers, John J. (Gloria) Brooks Jr. of Dalzell, Conrad (Delores) Brooks of Wedgefield and Dean Brooks of Concord, North Carolina; one grandson, Aurelius C. Brooks; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In accordance with COVID-19 guidelines, the family is requesting face masks and social distancing be observed by relatives and friends during all visitation at the home, 5717 Cane Savannah Road, Wedgefield.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. today in the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel of Williams Funeral Home Inc., 821 N. Main St., Sumter, with the Rev. Jeanette Collins Murray officiating and the Rev. Elijah Geter, eulogist. Burial will be at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia.

The procession will leave the home at 9:45 a.m.
