Startup Weekend Sumter moves to May

Posted

Startup Weekend Sumter, a 54-hour crash course in becoming a startup entrepreneur, will now be held May 3-5, right before Small Business Week.

Previously scheduled for Feb. 8-10, the event centered on action, innovation and education will be held at Central Carolina Technical College's Advanced Manufacturing Technology Training Center, 853 Broad St.

Startup Weekend is a perfect environment for those looking for feedback on a business idea, a co-founder, specific skill sets, a team to help you execute, or if someone wants to help and support others with business dreams, according to event organizers.

Teams will hear talks by industry leaders and receive valuable feedback from local entrepreneurs and business coaches. The confirmed coaches for the weekend include Matthew Morse, webmaster for the City of Sumter, on web design/graphics; Mitch Williams, financial adviser with Edward Jones, on finance; Kasie Whitener of the Columbia College Women's Business Center; Nancy Lee Zimpleman of Sword Lily Marketing on marketing; Douglas Wilson and Tom Montgomery of Toastmasters on presentation skills; and Hennie Van Bulck, a certified public accountant and associate professor at USC Sumter, on accounting.
