SUMMERTON – A Summerton woman was killed in a one-vehicle wreck on Interstate 95 Wednesday evening, according to Clarendon County Coroner Bucky Mock.
“Sixty-year-old Mary Canty died at the scene from blunt force trauma,” Mock said. “The Clarendon County Fire Department and Clarendon EMS were both at the scene and assisted with extrication.”
According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, Canty was driving a 2000 GMC Yukon south on I-95 when her vehicle ran off the interstate to the right and overturned several times.
“The (accident) occurred at 8 p.m. on Interstate 95 southbound at the 106 mile maker,” said South Carolina Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Tyler J. Tidwell. “That’s two miles south of Summerton.”
Tidwell said that only one vehicle was involved in the wreck and that Canty was wearing a seatbelt.
