Sumter Chamber hires new communications director

The Greater Sumter Chamber of Commerce recently welcomed a new person to its team.

Breanna J. Hughes joined the organization as its director of communications. Originally from Sumter, Hughes graduated from Lakewood High School in 2012 and studied at Central Carolina Technical College and USC Sumter. She is pursuing her master's degree in business administration from USC Aiken.

Hughes comes to the Chamber after four years of working with C. Simmons Construction as project coordinator. More longtime Sumterites may remember her from her earlier days working at Jack's Shoes before the business closed.

As if a full-time job and being a full-time student don't keep her busy enough, she also owns Huck and Grace Catering & Events.

"As a Sumter native, I have a huge passion for growth of our community and businesses. I have only been an active member of the Greater Sumter Chamber of Commerce for a short amount of time, but I was welcomed by members and staff with open arms," she said in a news release. "I know joining the team officially will only extend my reach, and I am so excited to be a part of Sumter's continuous growth."

Hughes was named the Chamber's Young Professional of the Year at its annual gala earlier this year.

Chris Hardy, president and CEO of the Chamber, said he and his team are excited to add Hughes to the mix.

"Her knowledge of our community and our Chamber of Commerce will allow us to continue our work of telling our story as a Chamber and a community builder," he said. "Breanna's work will be of vital importance as we progress through our re-purposing task force and alter our communication strategies. Please stop by and meet Breanna at the Chamber, and you will see why she is a great fit for our team."
